What's the status of your relationship with foods?

Have you lived in the "it's complicated" zone for way too long? Many of us have, for reasons like:

  • A long history of dieting that left us more confused than ever.
  • Constantly hearing conflicting messages about what, when, and how to eat.
  • Feeling guilt or shame around eating or enjoying certain foods.
  • Managing symptoms and reactions to foods that leave us frustrated.

By the time most clients walk in my door, they're usually at odds with food and their bodies.

But, before we dive into nourishing and healing, we take a step back. Just like you wouldn't put a new roof on a home while the basement is crumbling, nutrition works best on the foundation of a healthy and supportive relationship with you and foods.

Intuitive eating is key to building this foundation.

Intuitive eating is a compassionate, evidence-based approach that can transform your relationship with foods. It helps you move away from restrictive dieting, guilt, anxiety, and rules-based thinking. As you practice intuitive eating, you reacquaint yourself with your body's wisdom about what, when, and how much to eat. Even if you feel like you've never been acquainted with that inner wisdom,  you'll quickly learn HOW to tap into it, and it will feel so exciting and empowering to build upon that! Once mastered, intuitive eating will guide you for a lifetime.

What are the benefits of intuitive eating?

Intuitive Eating has been shown to improve body image, reduce food-related stress, and enhance overall mental and physical well-being. Many of my clients successfully overcome challenges like emotional eating, binge eating, and food-related anxiety, ultimately building a positive, trusting relationship with food.

Without the tools of intuitive eating, it’s easy to find yourself caught in cycles of restrictive eating or yo-yo dieting, leading to feelings of frustration and disconnection from food and your body. This cycle can impact your physical health, affecting cholesterol levels, thyroid balance, and digestion while draining the enjoyment from eating. Intuitive eating breaks these patterns, bringing confidence and freedom to your choices and fostering a peaceful, nourishing relationship with food.

There is incredible freedom in stepping away from the cycle of rule-bound, chaotic, and confusing eating patterns and building a balanced, sustainable relationship with food. This journey frees up energy to nourish and care for yourself, making intuitive eating a vital foundation for overall well-being.

Is intuitive eating right for you?

Learning to eat intuitively is ideal for those who have struggled with chronic dieting, disordered eating, or poor body image. It’s particularly beneficial for those who want to break free from the diet cycle, are tired of food-related guilt, or wish to rebuild trust with their bodies.

It’s also key for anyone wanting to improve their nutrition, gut, or overall health because it sets the work on a foundation of peace, confidence, and a healthy relationship with food. It improves your ability to identify and work with your body’s cues about what’s right for you.

In fact, intuitive eating is such a powerful lever for overall health and well-being that it forms the basis for all of my nutrition programs.

The Understand You & Foods Program

As a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Registered Dietitian, and Integrative & Functional Nutritionist, I'll guide you on a step-by-step journey to repair your relationship with foods and your body. This process is individualized, high-touch and fully supported; nothing is automated or boilerplate. As we collaborate closely together, you'll have plenty of time to practice, experiment, ask questions, and share your growth.

Step One

Learn to identify and honor your hunger and fullness cues.

Step Two

Let go of diet culture rules and rebuild body trust.

Step Three

Challenge food-related fears and guilt.

Step Four

Focus on satisfaction and making peace with foods–while designing new, personalized foods and menus that align with your health needs.

Step Five

Address emotional eating and identify non-food coping mechanisms.

This journey is individualized and can take a few months to over a year, depending on the person's history and needs. Modern humans can become quite disconnected from their hunger and body cues–and yet, nearly everyone can learn this and often quicker than you'd think!

Your Role

First and foremost, I want you to know that you are the expert on yourself. Our journey begins by listening to and learning from you — understanding where we should start, what has worked for you in the past, and what hasn’t.

My Role

I support you by building a personalized framework around your unique needs and experiences. While functional testing can offer valuable insights, building a solid foundation in Intuitive Eating is our first priority — ensuring any future changes are achievable and lasting.

Working with Theresa has been a fantastic change in my life.

Before we started, I was out of touch with unaware of my behaviors with food and why I was struggling. Bar none, Theresa ws the most essential piece of the lifechanging work that my body and mind needed to grow into a new lifestyle of self compassion and a nourishing relationship with myself and food.
